Criminal-record and social-profile search option.
View Records Sponsored partner optionMissouri’s MACHS system offers both a name-search portal and a fingerprint-search portal. They share a repository but not the same identity confidence or disclosure rules.
Use the name portal for public Missouri history; use fingerprints when positive identity or an authorized expanded check is required.
For a Missouri online criminal background check, MACHS is the official state route. The Name Search Portal provides public Missouri criminal-history information based on identifiers and should be treated as a possible match. The Fingerprint Search Portal is the better route when positive identity is required or the authorized purpose allows a broader state-and-federal transaction.
Missouri makes the identity distinction unusually explicit. A name search can be useful and fast, but MSHP cautions that common names, similar personal identifiers, or identity misuse can prevent a name-based result from being guaranteed as the subject’s record. That is why the output should be treated as a candidate record until enough identity detail supports the match.
The fingerprint portal solves a different problem. The person registers for fingerprint capture, the prints are transmitted for repository processing, and the biometric match ties the criminal-history response to the fingerprinted person. For certain qualified entities, that workflow can also include FBI information that is not part of an ordinary public name search.
MSHP calls the result a possible match until identity is positively established.
Closed information and FBI data depend on the authorized transaction.
Do not assume a member of the public can turn a name search into an FBI check by choosing a different button.
